NAREN State Coordinators

Privileges, Duties & Responsibilities

50 NAREN state coordinators are needed to provide current pertinent information to the NAREN web site.

We need a volunteer from each state. If you are:

• interested in at-risk kids;
• have some educational experience;
• are willing to stay in touch with your state's department of public instruction, etc.; and
• feel energized enough to reliably send to the NAREN secretary by e-mail monthly updates for posting on the NAREN web-site.

Not only do we need a coordinator for every state, but we also need a coordinator for each of the outlying areas of:

• American Samoa
• Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands
• Federated States of Micronesia
• Guam
• Puerto Rico
• Republic of Palau
• Republic of the Marshall Islands
• Virgin Islands

Qualifications:

• Some educational experience;
• Dedicated to and responsible for keeping the state NAREN web page pertinent and updated monthly;
• Collaborative with and answerable to the NAREN Director.

What appears on the state NAREN web page that might need monthly updating?

• State at-risk education initiatives
• Pertinent current newsworthy items pertaining to the state
• At-risk education funding/grant funds available
• New laws affecting state at-risk education
• State educational opportunities for at-risk youth
• Successful state alternative at-risk education programs/schools
• Home state calendar of events, including upcoming conferences, workshops, seminars, etc., pertinent to at-risk education
• E-mail address of state coordinator
• Links specific to the home state

The web pages for each and every state (or outlying area) are already up! For those that we have coordinators for, the pages are fully functional and updated regularly, and for all others the pages serve as ready-made "templates" that prospective coordinators can reference.

Privileges

• State Coordinators are currently volunteers. Funding is being sought for a small stipend to cover expenses incurred, but there is no guarantee when this could happen; so don't count on it, please.
• State Coordinators will be especially invited to attend the annual NAREN conference at a 50% reduction in registration fees.
• State Coordinators will attend their own NAREN sponsored state conferences for free.
• State Coordinators will be part of the Coordinator Council and will be consulted for advisory influence in NAREN's functioning and direction.
• State Coordinators will officially be permitted to list their title / responsibilities on resumes.

Note: State Coordinators failing to fulfill their agreement with NAREN can be removed at the discretion of the Director without warning.
