The NAREN Nine Self-Study Kit

The Self-Study Kit assists schools or school systems in taking an in-depth look at how they can better meet the needs of at-risk youth in several ways: 1) assessing their at-risk program against quality education standards developed by NAREN; 2) reforming their existing at-risk education program with effective guidelines; 3) utilizing the guidelines in developing new at-risk education programs; and, 4) preparing for certification by NAREN reviewer(s). Included in the NAREN Self-Study Kit is a guideline manual and a workbook with all nine NAREN standards, indicators of compliance, benchmark evidence suggestions, and spaces to notate locations of authentic evidence in the portfolio to be submitted for review. Also included are full instructions for applying for certification, application forms, suggested timetables, and contact information.

Each distinctive at-risk program in a school system should fill out a separate Self-Study Manual. (Note: Self-Study Kits are personalized and serially numbered with the schools information, so they are non-returnable and they may NOT be duplicated.)

Individualized Learning Center Earns Silver Level Certification

The latest public school program for alternative education to receive an award for their completion of their self-study is the Individualized Learning Center in Rockwood MO. The process is an intense 18 month self-examination and portfolio documentation of the program and its staff and student outcomes for that period. Alternative programs are established to accommodate different learning styles of students who might be at-risk of dropping out unless offered an equal but different educational program that is just as rigorous but approaches learning the same things in different ways from the mainstream classes. We are very proud of Mike Hylen and his staff. This is the newstory just released in their hometown paper.
